| A pipeline of high profile campus companies which have secured large sums of investment funding are currently hitting the headlines, making commercialisation of university research a very hot and relevant issue. Research programmes are an intrinsic part of university and third level institutions,with a greater number resulting in commercial entities.
Enterprise Ireland's Campus Companies Programme supports the development of existing third level based companies and the establishment of new companies. We provide assistance to researchers interested in commercialising R&D emerging from the college campus. An element of this is CORD feasibility funding, which allows an academic entrepreneur or campus company assess the commercial viability of their innovative technology. Support is available in the form of both business development advice and financial assistance to start-up knowledge-based enterprises. Mentor facilities are also available. Specifically designed part-time business training courses also exist such as the Campus Company Development Programme in UCD and PROSPECT in the PDC, Docklands Innovation Park. The Enterprise Platform Programmes are full time one year rapid incubation programmes for entrepreneurs who wish to start their own business. |
