Objectives of the SAIL Secondments
· To transfer practical expertise in managing academic / industrial cooperation initiatives
Balanced senior level secondments will address the recognised fact that project information alone does not travel with much success. By exchanging leaders of key regional partners and agencies, who have overseen the delivery of successful regional projects and programmes, the member regions will benefit from a full exchange of expertise in this key area of innovation strategy. Each member will see how successful projects and initiatives are operated and managed on-site and learn about the establishment, funding and monitoring practices within the host region. From this they will gain an understanding of the key success factors and the problem areas which were overcome.
· To facilitate closer links between the key movers and shakers of innovation from different European regions
Seminars, conferences and interactive correspondence are excellent methods of communication, but the placement of individuals within organisations builds the optimal transnational relationship. By exchanging knowledge through actually working within the organisation, the individuals involved will build very close links with the host member. These links will lead to the further transfer of best practise and new transnational initiatives, thus build strength and cohesion to the innovation arena in Europe
· To initiate the implementation of pilot projects and new innovation activities
On site learning will enable the member regions to implement schemes / projects much faster than if they had not benefited from shared learning experiences. Having a knowledgeable individual who played a key role in the implementation of a similar project in their own region ‘on-hand’ to advise will result in fewer mistakes. It will also mean that initiatives can be launched with more speed and greater clarity, to the benefit of the organisations and regions involved.
